Inglourious Basterds: You’ve never seen anything like this

Filmmaking at its bravest.
Inglourious Basterds is violent, audacious, and thoroughly uninhibited, a classic Tarantino genre.
The Basterds were the number one draw at the international box office too, grossing roughly $27.5m from the UK and 21 other international territories. Tarantino enjoyed new opening weekend records in about 18 territories including France, Germany and Russia, which isn’t a bad result for a second world war fantasy. Of all Tarantino’s movies, only Pulp Fiction has crossed $100m in North America and on this showing Basterds stands a chance of becoming the second.

Relishing the broadness of his character and the awkwardness of the film’s thesis, Brad Pitt is a ostentatious gratification. His opposite, Christoph Waltz as Nazi Col. Hans Landa, is a complex creation, a charming killer who’s constantly three steps ahead of his enemies. A master with words, the actor is given many opportunities to dominate the film, verbally analyzing the whys and wherefores of his and his prey’s intentions. The tension between these two characters is the best thing in the film.

Tarantino’s singular talent has just delivered the most challenging and intellectually engaging film of his career.

Movie Trivia:
Quentin Tarantino worked on the script for almost a decade.
Quentin Tarantino started writing this movie before Kill Bill: Vol. 1 (2003) but could not decide on a good ending and decide to put it on hold to do Kill Bill with Uma Thurman, a project he had been mentally preparing since Pulp Fiction (1994).
